At Miles for Breakfast Media, we believe film can change how people see the world. A powerful story can open a window into unfamiliar places, deepen our understanding of complex issues, and create connections that inspire meaningful change.
We create documentary films about adventure, science, conservation, and the human experience. Our work takes us into remote and demanding environments where adaptability, technical skill, and sound judgment are essential.
From mountains and deserts to Arctic tundra and open ocean, we know how to operate far from the usual infrastructure of a production set. We bring the practical skills of an expedition filmmaker together with thoughtful storytelling and cinematic craft to create films that are both visually compelling and grounded in the realities of the people and places we document.

Miles for Breakfast Media was founded by Kristin Gates, an expedition filmmaker whose work is shaped by more than a decade spent traveling some of the world's most remote and rugged landscapes.
Kristin began long-distance hiking at eighteen and became the youngest woman at the time to complete the 7,000+ mile Triple Crown. After moving to Alaska's Arctic, she fell in love with the Brooks Range, mapped a 1,000-mile route across the state, and traversed it solo. The following year, she kayaked more than 2,000 miles from source to sea on the Yukon River. A seasoned dog musher and veteran of numerous other long-distance expeditions, she has spent years traveling through challenging environments on foot, by boat, and by dog team.
A Fellow of the Explorers Club, Kristin brings this field background to her work as a filmmaker. She also holds a Master's degree in Media Advocacy, focused on the intersection of law, strategy, and journalism and the use of storytelling to drive meaningful change. Together, these experiences have given her a unique perspective on how to tell stories that are both visually compelling and grounded in the people, science, and issues behind them.
