The Great Nomad Expedition co-founder Unenburen Uydenbat describes Mongolia’s herders as the country’s “cultural heroes.” Through their daily lives, they carry forward traditions, knowledge, and skills that have been passed down for thousands of years. The traditional way of life is facing significant pressures. Herding is demanding and communities are facing increasingly difficult challenges, from extreme weather and changing environmental conditions to economic pressures and migration to cities.

Supporting herding communities is central to the Great Nomad Expedition's work. Through their expeditions, the team partners with herders across the country, creating opportunities for local communities to benefit directly from tourism while giving visitors the chance to learn from their deep knowledge and experience.
